Throwing Knife Collection: Dieter Führer's Solingen Knives

Collection of throwing knives from the 1950s and 1960s, produced in Solingen, Germany. The handles are made from stacked leather.

From the personal collection of renowed knife throwing teacher and author Dieter Führer.

These elaborate throwing knives where produced in the 1950s and 1960s by notable companies in Solingen, Germany. The blades are very similarly shaped. Sometimes the blades are even tapered, that is the thickest part of the blade is somewhere in the lowest third of the blade. The blade is thus getting thinner towards the tip and hilt. The handles consist of pressed leather discs alternating with colored discs (stabilised plant fibre). The aluminium pommels are screwed onto the tang via a sunk-in slotted screw. This connection did not withstand the stress of throwing - it became loose and the leather discs lost their alignment.
