Presentation of some throwing knives
Michael is an avid knife thrower who began training seriously some years ago. He kindly offered us the pictures and descriptions on this page. Of course the remarks and values are all subjective, especially the turn counts and distances. The measurements, prices and all refer to the throwing knives he has tested. These knives may not be in the market anymore in this form.
The distance given at farthest throw achieved is the one where Michael was able to still stick persistently.

| Preferred distance |
4, 5 and 6 m (1½ / 2 / 2½ turns) |
| Remarks |
If the tip is made blunt, it can be thrown equally well from the blade and the handle.
The tip may brake if the throwing knife is thrown at hard wood (own experience and reported by other throwers).
The needle-tip finds it way through the included nylon sheath way too easily.
Very wide range in the ratio turns/distance possible with different throwing styles (e.g. 2 turns between 4, 5 and 7 m).
Farthest throw achieved: ca. 7,5m (3 turns)
Personal record at the "Grosses Werfertreffen" 2001 near Berlin: 9,86m (4 turns)

Various manufacturers, e.g. Herbertz (available in thinner versions, ca. 3 to 4 mm) |
| Surface |
Coated or untreated |
| Preferred distance |
3,5 and 5,5 m (1 / 2 turns) |
| Remarks |
Must be thrown from the handle due to the shape of the blade and the distribution of the weight.
With its thick blade and the unusual shape of the blade, this throwing knife must be thrown very accurate to remain sticking.
Extremely soft steel.
Farthest throw achieved: ca. 7,5m (3 turns) |

different manufacturers, e.g. Linder has various length |
| Surface |
polished |
| Preferred distance |
4 / 6 m (1½ / 2½ turns) |
| Remarks |
This throwing knife can be thrown well from the blade after you make it blunt (my preferred method).
Due to its asymmetric shape and the broad and light design, it tends to rotate around its roll axis if thrown from the handle.
Because the design resembles a utility knife (bowie shape), it can be thrown in a "blade lays flat in your palm" manner, e.g. half turn up to 4,5m or 1½ turns from 5 to 6m.
Farthest throw achieved: ca. 6m (2½ turns)
